Bogan’s Blueprints & Bold Moves

Living the ELITE Standard

When Jamauri Bogan, talks about excellence, he doesn’t just mean doing things well—he means striving for what he calls the ELITE standard.

The concept first took hold during his time as a student-athlete at Western Michigan University, where he played running back for the Broncos under Coach P.J. Fleck (now head coach at the University of Minnesota).

“We were taught that there are five kinds of people in the world—bad, average, good, great, and elite. And elite was always the standard,” Bogan recalls. “Every day we had to respond with the word ‘elite’—in academics, in performance, in how we treated others. It became the North Star we were all aiming for.”

From the Field to the Foundation

That mindset stuck with Jamauri far beyond football. Today, it defines how he leads Bogan Developments and how the company approaches every project.

“The ELITE standard now shows up in everything I do—from the way I treat my family, to the way I serve our community, to the way I run our business,” Bogan says. “We are never going to compromise our standard.”

For Bogan Developments, being ELITE means:

  • Building affordable and market-rate housing with equal quality and design.

  • Partnering with best-in-class organizations, like the YMCA, to provide childcare and community services.

  • Designing developments that elevate the lives of children, families, and individuals—beyond just bricks and mortar.

Why It Matters

Living by the ELITE standard means refusing to cut corners, even when challenges arise. Whether it’s pushing forward on workforce housing in underinvested areas or reimagining unused land into vibrant neighborhoods, the company’s focus is always on what best serves the community—sometimes even when it’s the harder financial path.

“Our developments have impacts outside of just the buildings we create,” Bogan explains. “We’re elevating the living standards of children, families, and individuals. That’s what being ELITE looks like.”

Advice for Entrepreneurs

For those building their own ventures, Jamauri’s advice is clear:

  1. Set Your Standard High: Don’t settle for good when you can push for elite.

  2. Stay Consistent: Excellence isn’t occasional—it’s daily discipline.

  3. Think Beyond Profit: True success comes when your work serves a greater good.
